Direct Flights to London from Austin!

Austin’s Airport is now offering direct flights to London’s Heathrow Airport. This is the first transatlantic flight offered in Austin, Texas and one of only 25 cities in America that offers direct flights to London. It is also the first time a small non-hub market in America is able to land a direct flight over the Atlantic.

The new route will bring in roughly 1,100 jobs to the air service industry in Austin along with an initial $70 million added to the economy. The route will also benefit travelers who often have to connect in Houston or Dallas to continue their journey overseas cutting down on travel time significantly.

From now until May British Airways will offer five flights per week and in May flights will fly daily.

Maggie Bishop with the Austin Chamber of Commerce stated, “We [Austin] do have extremely significant ties with the UK amongst our tech industry.” "Austin is a city on the rise. The emerging driving culture of the scene here, the tech sector, they all make this a very very attractive destination for British Airways," said Sean Doyle, executive vice president of British Airways.

So who knows, more direct international flight might be in the future for Austin!
